Employee Advocacy

A program where employees share company-related content from their personal social accounts, amplifying brand reach through trusted individual voices.

Employee advocacy is the practice of getting your team to share company content from their personal social profiles instead of (or in addition to) the company page. The goal is to bypass the reach penalty that branded content suffers on LinkedIn and tap into the larger combined network of all employees.

The math is striking. A 200-person company where each employee has 500 LinkedIn connections has a combined potential reach of 100,000 people, often 10-20x what the company page can reach organically. Even a 20% participation rate beats the company page on most days.

Program structures vary. Some companies use dedicated platforms like Bambu, Hootsuite Amplify, EveryoneSocial, or LinkedIn's own "My Company" tab, which surfaces approved posts to employees with a one-click share. Others run informal Slack channels where marketing drops the week's posts and employees can grab any they want.

The pitfalls are well-known. Mandated sharing produces robotic, identical reposts that look obviously coordinated and get suppressed by the algorithm. The best programs encourage employees to add their own perspective, voice, or example to the share. Quality always beats coverage.

Incentives also matter. Tying advocacy to compensation produces gaming; making it a recognized part of someone's role and celebrating standout sharers produces actual engagement. The healthiest programs make sharing feel optional, helpful, and on-brand for the employee's own goals.
