Open Profile

A LinkedIn Premium setting that lets any LinkedIn member send you a free InMail, even if they're not connected and don't have Premium themselves.

Open Profile is a LinkedIn Premium feature that flips the normal InMail economics. Normally, only Premium subscribers can send InMails, and each one costs a credit. When you turn on Open Profile, any LinkedIn member, free or paid, can send you an InMail at no cost to either of you.

The feature is included with every Premium tier (Career, Business, Sales Navigator, Recruiter, Recruiter Lite). It's off by default and lives in your Premium settings under "Open Profile premium".

When to turn it on: if you actively want inbound contact. Job seekers wanting outreach from recruiters, consultants wanting client inquiries, founders raising money wanting investor contact, anyone running a podcast or media property wanting guest pitches. The signal to senders is that you welcome cold messages.

When to leave it off: if your inbox is already noisy, or if you'd rather force contacts through a connection request (which gives you a filter). Sales prospects sometimes flag profiles with Open Profile on as "more reachable", which can be a positive or a negative depending on what you're trying to do.

Open Profile also displays a small "Open profile" badge to other Premium members, which is a subtle but real signal of openness. The mechanic underneath is simple: LinkedIn refunds Open Profile senders' InMail credits automatically, so it never costs them anything to message you.
